July 16 marks the three-year anniversary of an attack that left five servicemen dead.

Marine Staff Sgt. David Wyatt and four others—Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith and Marines Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, Lance Cpl. Squire “Skip” Wells and Sgt. Carson Holmquist—died after a shooter attacked their center and a military office on Lee Highway.

The shooting, which also left a CPD officer injured, prompted a mourning Chattanooga to rally around the idea of #NoogaStrong.

Area residents created makeshift memorials at both shooting locations.

Businesses and organizations raised money for victims and their families.

In the years since the shooting, the community has continued to turn out in mass to memorial events, such as a concert and the Heroes Run/Walk.

This week, many area residents used social media to honor those who died.
