The new boutique hotel at the foot of the Walnut Street bridge is now open.

The Edwin Hotel, which has 90 rooms, a ground floor restaurant called the Whitebird and a rooftop bar, officially opened Thursday.

The Vision Hospitality Group Inc. project aims to highlight all things Chattanooga. It’s named after Edwin Thacher, who led the development of the Walnut Street Bridge in 1891.

It has a special events room named after the late, former publisher of The Chattanooga Times Ruth Holmberg and features paintings from local artists, such as Kevin Bate, who also created an piece in Holmberg’s likeness for the hotel.
